Not everyone wants a huge 3 foot tall PC with 17 hard drive bays and space for 13 DVD drives, and on the same note, most small form factor cases are just too small for the necessary components to have a moderately fast rig - so, yes, the desktop case is still alive and kicking. A desktop computer has a number of advantages over a traditional full tower - it sits on a desk, and doesn't draw in nearly as much dust as a floor bound tower. Desktop generally look better than a tower, and tend to blend with a room more.
