OWC Mercury Pro 12X Blu-Ray
The OWC Mercury Pro looks fantastic on paper. It has a great looking cabinet, it's sturdy, and offers the following interfaces:
FireWire 400
FireWire 800
USB 2.0
eSATA
With it's ability to write Blu-Rays at 8x (the current fastest avaliable) you'd ask what could be wrong with this drive? The answer is alot. Thei drive seems to have tons of errors and problems with Nero DiscSpeed - the industry standard for writing Blu-Ray discs. OWC claims that there is no problem, but our tests continued to fail with any type of media. Since the Mercury Pro doesn't come with any software, you may be in a tight spot here.
The verdict is that this could be a good drive, but if you aren't using the write software, it might as well be a brick. You may fair better if you are a mac user, but us Windows guys should look out.
